As this blog gets its initial flavour of what’s to be written, my favourite canine was now making very good progress with her pork bone, and partially ignoring it while applying her nose just elsewhere, and yes, sniffs intently at the slightest difference in visible space. And as if the neighbour of a square inch of the same floor delivers a highly varied punchbowl of scents, her ears would flicker, her tail wags in purposeful directions – she perceives.

And as i might humbly borrow ideas from my dog for multiple aspects of my life, i can’t see why i shan’t borrow from her again, to explain by metaphor, what i shall do with this blog. I shall sniff. Putting a nose out into whichever hole, crevice, cave or mountain top; given water or poison, apple or pie, roast or stew, smoke or musk; in these i shall apply my nose, i shall perceive, and i shall write.

Many a friend had suggested to me, that i should expound on the way i see and experience food and drink. Being a little twit myself, it was decided albeit prematurely that this kind of writing would not be agreeable to my distracted brain; all too eager to peep into boxes – juke, pandora or otherwise. But to be fair, i have a feeling that this little writing corner that i’m about to start here, will more or less represent another kind of food writing. There will be flavours, textures, recipes and scents; but as we shall see, perhaps  the senses of taste and smell, of touch and of memories, are not enslaved by food alone. Maybe, if i try hard enough, we can all come away from a short paragraph, with a different kind of picture, seen with a different kind of lens; a bit of something in the air that we have not had our nose ventured to smell before; and to allow all that new things to form in our minds cute little pockets of perception, just ever so gently reminding us of how pleasantly surprising this world is – i still like to call it, Cuteness…
